Chris Autrey uses this project in both his Financial Literacy/Personal Finance class and his Investing class. The students can buy, sell, trade, and more. He has individual competitions to see who can make the most money and he has class competitions! The students cannot wait to get into the classroom everyday and check their stocks!
Chris's Notes about this Project: I use this simulator in Investing and Personal Finance. The students are given $100,000 to invest. They may invest in any company (school appropriate) that is traded on the New York Stock Exchange. This simulator gives the students the real life experience of making money as well as loosing money and gives them the opportunity to analyze their decisions and make adjustments to their portfolio. I run this simulation after I talk about stocks and the annual reports of companies. The simulation runs from approximately the first week of February to the first week of April. At the end of the simulation we step back and reevaluate the decisions the students made about what companies they invested in and how and when they decided to
buy or sell a company.
